Bloom in the park, dublin 2016

‘Glasnevin to Grenada’ was a silver medal-winning show garden at Bloom in the Park, Ireland’s national garden show. The show garden was adapted from the garden that won Super Garden, Ireland’s national TV competition for new designers.

The garden transports the visitor from the shady Victorian red-brick aesthetic of the garden’s original setting, to a sun-drenched and exuberant terrace with Moroccan influences. The inspiration for this design was the north-facing aspect of the original house, which meant that the only sun was at the far end of their garden.

The planting reflects this transition, moving from shade-loving and more native plants such as ferns and foxgloves, through to mediterranean and sun-loving plants. The blue of the pergola and the patterned tiles are inspired by the Majorelle Gardens in Marrakech.
